Database and Big Data - The Core Value in Developing the Digital Economy (28/12/2022)

In the transition to digital government, digital economy, and digital society to create a breakthrough in economic growth and development, improve competitiveness and bring about a better life, the database that now evolving into big data plays the role of one of the determinants of success. The paper analyzes the role of databases and big data in the development of the digital economy from macro and micro perspectives, and explores the experiences of China and South Korea in building, managing, and operating the digital economy based on databases and big data, thereby proposing some suggestions for Vietnam to promote digital transformation and build a digital economy.

Outcomes of Policy Implementation Towards Small Ethnic Minorities in Vietnam (28/12/2022)

Ethnic policy has always been interested and focused on by the Party and the State of Vietnam, with three principles of “equality”, “unity” and “mutual assistance”. In addition to general policies for 53 ethnic minorities, from 2010 to the present, a new set of policies has been promulgated for the conservation and development of small ethnic minorities, covering all areas of their social life. The article presents a systematic overview of key policies, programs, and projects of the Government, and evaluates the results and limitations of the implementation of those policies in selected aspects.

About the Traditional Beliefs of the Hmong People in Meo Vac District, Ha Giang Province (Case Studies in Xin Cai, Sung Tra, and Thuong Phung Communes) (28/12/2022)

The Hmong people in Meo Vac district, Ha Giang province of Vietnam has always maintained their traditional religious practices, worshipping Gods, their ancestors, and different ghosts. However, after the 1980s, some new religious phenomena appeared in this area. Besides practising their traditional beliefs, a part of the Hmong people mainly converted to Protestantism and San sư khẹ tọ new religious movements. The article highlights the changes in the traditional beliefs of the Hmong people in Meo Vac district, Ha Giang province (case studies in Xin Cai, Sung Tra, and Thuong Phung communes) and indicates reasons for this change.

“Jante” and Its Influence on the Cultural Life in the Nordic Countries (28/12/2022)

The Nordic region is considered successful by several world indicators, and is also a community with strong cohesion, high social capital, and trust. The typical Nordic way of life keeps simple and collectivist and discourages the expression of individual superiority or elitism. From the perspective of traditional history, Nordic lifestyle and culture are the crystallization and mixing of many factors, including the strong influence of “Jante”. The paper analyzes the formation and influence of “Jante” on the cultural life in the Nordic countries, thereby drawing some relevant implications.

Sla-tho Offerings in Khmer Rituals in the South Through the Perspective of Cultural Symbol (28/12/2022)

Khmer culture in the South of Vietnam is characterized by tangible and intangible cultural values with diverse symbols and signs in their cultural activities. While the symbols associated with the architecture of Khmer Theravada Buddhist temples such as Neak (Naga), Krud, Keyno, etc., the elements of offerings in traditional ceremonies, beliefs, and religious rituals seem to have not been interested, explored, and decoded. From the semiotic perspective, the article studies Sla-tho offerings in terms of origin, names, and forms, thereby interpreting their expressive meanings, and further clarifies the concept, creative thinking, and aesthetic thinking during the history and development of Khmer ethnic society in Southern Vietnam in general and in the case study of Khmer people in Tra Vinh in particular.

Vowel System in Bhnong Ethnic Language Through Several Dialects (28/12/2022)

The paper presents the research results of vowels of Bhnong ethnic language through some dialects in 5 villages (plây) in Phuoc Son mountainous district in Quang Nam province of Vietnam. Currently, there are 18 vowels, including 12 monophthongs and 6 diphthongs in Bhnong language in Kadhot Mang village. It also provides homophone phonetic contexts in Bhnong that prove the existence of vowels. Some vowels have tense and lax variations when combined with certain endings, but there are also variations in pronunciation in other villages. In particular, vowels are pronounced with a much higher pitch in Kanang village than that in other villages. These are new findings about Bhnong language in general and Bhnong vowels in particular.
