Based on a literature review of the European Union’s industrial and digital economic development policies in the context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (Industry 4.0), the paper assesses Vietnam’s readiness in developing the digital economy, and proposes various solutions for Vietnam to take advantage of opportunities and overcome challenges of Industry 4.0.

Experience of Korea and China in Developing Digital Economy - Lessons for Vietnam (28/07/2020)

Digital economy has given rise to a number of new business models providing digital products and services or service support for businesses, thanks to a range of new technologies in the context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (Industry 4.0). In particular, businesses renovate production and business processes into ecosystem models in which production, trade and consumption are linked together, which also leads to labor productivity growth. The success of international models can be a lesson for Vietnam. The paper discusses the digital economy of South Korea and China, from which offers some recommendations for Vietnam.

Social Capital in Livelihoods of Ca dong People in Resettlement Area of Tranh River 2 Hydropower Plant: A Case Study at Hamlet 6, Tra Bui Commune, Bac Tra My District, Quang Nam Province (28/07/2020)

In order to restore the livelihood of vulnerable communities affected by the development projects, both the State’s and international organizations’ support policies have so far biasedly focused on the goal of how to improve their natural, physical, and financial capitals, etc. Meanwhile, social capital - an intangible (also infinite) resource in sustainable development, has not been yet paid proper attention. The paper clarifies the role of “social capital” in relation to “livelihood development” and how its decline has affected the improvement of the livelihoods of Ca dong ethnic people in resettlement area. The research outcome can be used as reference in policy formulation and planning for livelihood restoration and stabilization of project affected communities in Vietnam today.

Vietnamese Religious Culture in Contemporary Prose after the Doimoi (Reform) Period (28/07/2020)

Literature has proved its true value as a mirror that reflects all cultural and social matters as well as destiny and perspectives of the nation, the spirit of the times. Many generations of Vietnamese writers and poets all through history have constantly exploited the national cultural values in their works. While prose in the Doimoi (Reform) period is likely influenced by the era of information technology, it has, nevertheless, been imbued with the beliefs, customs, Mother Goddess worship among many national cultural values as found in the works of writers, even the young generation. The paper discusses religious belief in Vietnam reflected in works of contemporary prose in post-Doimoi.

Consonant System of Bhnong Ethnic Language in Quang Nam Province (28/07/2020)

The paper, a phonetic and phonological study of consonants and clusters of consonants in Bhnong ethnic language spoken in the west region of Quang Nam province in central of Vietnam, is among a series of our recent publications on Bhnong ethnic language over the last 10 years. An inventory of 63 Bhnong consonants and clusters of consonants is listed. These unknown results differ from the existing studies on the Bhnong consonants in particular and the Bhnong ethnic language in general.
