The thinking of the Communist Party of Vietnam on international integration has made a significant shift from “international cooperation”, “international economic integration” to “comprehensive international integration” with the principle “stay flexible but true to your values” based on national interests. Vietnam’s international integration has transformed strongly and become increasingly comprehensive as an important motive to enhance the country’s overall strength, contributing to consolidating a peaceful and stable environment, maintaining independence, sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity, heightening the international reputation of the country. This article analyzes and clarifies the process of the Vietnamese Communist Party’s evolving thinking on international integration from 1986 to the present, based on philosophical, historical, and systematic approaches.
