Unlocking the Potential of the Silver Economy: Experiences from East Asian Countries and Policy Implications for Vietnam
25/08/2026
The article examines the potential of the Silver Economy in the context of population ageing in Vietnam by comparing the experiences of three East Asian countries: Japan, South Korea, and China. Based on a literature review and a comparative policy analysis, the paper identifies the distinctive features of each country’s approach. It then draws lessons regarding the establishment of institutional frameworks, the development of product and service ecosystems, and the promotion of older persons’ participation. Thereby, some policy implications are proposed for Vietnam to gradually develop a Silver Economy ecosystem suited to the country’s demographic ageing context and development conditions.
