Beyond being accomplished political and military leaders, the Trịnh Lords- including Trịnh Căn (1633-1709), Trịnh Cương (1686-1729), Trịnh Doanh (1720-1767), and Trịnh Sâm (1739-1782) - were also prominent literary figures of the Restored Lê period. Their literary works formed the literary tradition of the Trịnh Lords, which served not only aesthetic purposes but also important political and social functions. This article examines key characteristics of this tradition to highlight the value of a distinctive courtly literary tradition in medieval Vietnamese literature.
